What to do on New Years Eve

Now for me New Years always seems to be a disappointment, it’s so expensive and choosing the right venue the thrust your hip can be trying... so this year i’m out AND THATS OFFICIAL. If i was going out this year I would have gone to the Urban Nerd NYE event at Cordy House but thanks to Hackney Councils stoosh licensing regulations the event has been cancelled. However for those looking for somewhere my hit list is as follows (in no particular order).

1) For the hardcore ravers who don’t mind not remembering the whole night , my suggestion is EGG in Kings Cross, Abstract are hosting a white and gold Rio style ball, tickets are £45 MOTD, but its a guaranteed good night and their smoking area is exceptional as its within the club so your non smoking mates are not left behind
2) Now another hit for the house lovers is Secretsundaze at Village Underground in Shoreditch. This is gonna be another rave not for the faint hearted posers, real clubbers, real music, real nuts. If you have the stamina it will be live and since its next to Liverpool Street Station the transport links are live too. This night is not as commercial as egg for the tunage but it doesnt need to be, known as the "Rave Hut" this team have a loyal following of music lovers who like to get down and dirty to unadulterated hard hitting beats. So the links below but if you want tickets think fast cos they are all but done

3) Walking away from the house haunts for a sec, the NYE gem for me is the WORK IT night at Visions in Dalston. All music is from the '90's so if you love a bit of Biggie Smalls, TLC and 112 and also thrive on a bargain (£10 early bird ticket and the drinks are local pub prices!!!) this is the one for you. Went to their last night in December (It's on the 3rd Saturday of every month and usually a fiver) and was dancing all night, the venue is small but the vibes are great and you don't need to spend a fortune on your outfit.
HOWEVER I repeat the venue is small so fashionably late does not cut it, if your not there before 10pm you may not get in.

4) For the funky and fabulous divas Wall Street Crash @ Beach Blanket Babylon (shoreditch) is the way forward. Hosted by Daniel Lismore, with Jody Harsh on Decks this will be a memoralble night of total glamour. Tickets are very well priced at £15, musics disco and electro but u'll probs get a whole lot more. I say dress up and get wild and use ur imagination - this is not for the faint hearted!!!!

5) My last shout out goes to the NYE @ The End, Its their last bash ever ....full stop with Laurent Garnier in the main room spinning Electro, DnB, House, Indie and whatever else he fits in his box. This will be a good night and theres loads of afterparties in close quarters.

So i hope this has been helpful, if your still unsure my advice is get wasted and do a tube crawl, the joke i catch every year going to raves is serious. As long as your with decent peeps NYE will be good just overate one day in a year!!!

2008 is drawing to a close

2008 has come to its end and as 09 begins one of my most serious worries is the rise in leggings. Their inclusion in wardrobes have grown and grown and whilst they may look good on the catwalk the varieties now available should not be given to the untrained eye. I mean i was doing some grocery shopping in Dalston the other day and they were selling the PVC ‘esch ones for £4.99 in most clothing stalls – great bargain yes but be serious people is this what you want to see the average un-toned joke wearing –THEY ARE NOT FLATTERING!!!! Further to the point they are a health and safety risk restricting your skin from breathing and very flammable.

Getting away from the leggings problem, I am really starting to enjoy this credit crunch, like OMG the deals the deals the deals!!! But don’t be cheap don’t go to bargain/run of the mill high street stores this is not where you find the joys of the crunch. It’s all about the shoes, handbags and coats.... £300 pound shoes for £80 is now a norm so why buy the ordinary when you can have the extravagant?? And the rule applies for all, popped into House of Frasier in Westfield just before xmas and the jeans.....Seven, J Brand and Rock Republic (for the bling lovers) were all in and around £100 and these are not the crappy ones with dumb logos and zip on the butt either. People go out and get those bargains.

Now maybe it’s that I don’t go clubbing in the west end hotspots to much anymore, I don’t know, but I am happy to announce that the wannabe WAG culture seems to have died out (woohoo). I love clubbing but there are only so many times an Ompalumpa with a bad weave can push past me to get into VIP, and block up the dance floor pouting before I have to migrate back to my more local haunts were drinks are not overpriced and the people around are sociable.
